Over 300,000 Samsung Stoves Recalled in Canada Due to Fire Hazard

More than 300,000 Samsung electric stoves sold across Canada are being recalled due to a fire risk, which has already resulted in multiple injuries.

Health Canada announced the recall on Thursday, citing a potential hazard with the front-mounted knobs on several Samsung electric slide-in range models. These knobs can be accidentally activated by contact, posing a significant fire risk.

The recall affects approximately 326,250 units sold between 2013 and August 2024. Samsung Electronics Canada is offering free knob locks or covers to customers with the affected models to prevent accidental activations.

While waiting for the free safety kits, customers are advised to continue using their stoves with caution, ensuring children and pets are kept away from the knobs and taking additional safety measures. Those with Wi-Fi-enabled stoves can use the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts when a burner is turned on.

As of August 28, Samsung has received reports of 57 incidents and seven injuries related to these stoves. Customers can visit Samsung Canada’s website to request the free knob kit.
